About

I am Fuyu, a Taiwanese textile artist specializing in tapestry weaving. My works present and interact with the relationship between people and nature.

For me, weaving is like a long journey of seeing and thinking that inspires me to explore more possibilities of textile art in contemporary creation.

Book with Shadows

2020
Residency in Bookstore Mist (薄霧書店), Taipei, Taiwan

Plato said that most people in the world live in caves where they can only see shadows. The true and perfect reality lies beyond the cave. This metaphor distinguishes between educated and uneducated people.

Perhaps the dark world of shadows is not ideal, but it contains the possibility of perception, of allowing the light to happen at random. To think about the direction in the stirring of fire and shadow is also the true meaning of the bookstore's existence.

“People who experience reading, their own shadows and the shadows they see will change with them.” The thought and image came to my mind. And in the mist, what People can see are also shadows. That's why I wove some soft sculptures about shadows in a bookstore “Mist” like this. For the specific book I met, or even a whole book series, I wanted to weave a piece of shadow for them.
