About

I am Fuyu, a Taiwanese textile artist specializing in tapestry weaving. My works present and interact with the relationship between people and nature.

For me, weaving is like a long journey of seeing and thinking that inspires me to explore more possibilities of textile art in contemporary creation.

Nice to Meet You

2022
New Taipei City, Taiwan

More than once, I have witnessed the aftermath of cutting down a tree  in my neighborhood — an image that is not easily observed when the tree is still alive, so I get goosebumps when I come across the scene. It made me ponder: the same section of the trunk, and I wanted to “see” her in a gentler light.

I decided to sketch the cross-section of the other survival trees, with indirect and gingerly observations and hugging touches. I wanted to draw the outline of the ring that would not be visible before the tree was cut down, and silently wish we would never see each other face to face.
