About

I am Fuyu, a Taiwanese textile artist specializing in tapestry weaving. My works present and interact with the relationship between people and nature.

For me, weaving is like a long journey of seeing and thinking that inspires me to explore more possibilities of textile art in contemporary creation.

The Wind Boy

2017
Artist in residence at ARNA, Sweden

In 2017, I applied for a residency opportunity in Sweden, ARNA, where art is combined with Nature. After I arrived there, I discovered that Scandinavians don't like autumn and hate winter more than anything else.

“Is there anything that people don't notice about this time of year?”
I started from the observation of the landscape, using poetic words and weaving work to depict the gray but hidden layers of the Nordic autumn and winter scenery. In the end, I prepared two-night bedtime story for the locals with the textile creations “The Wind Boy.”

A mini-workshop was also held to invite residents to share their local maps. The action of “drawing a map” allows people to think deeply about where they are and to see their hometown from a different perspective.
